A new version of appletrailerfs has been released. appletrailerfs brings you the Apple movie trailers to the Western Digital TV HD and your PC.
This version introduces a new cache mode that improves performance, especially for 720p and 1080p trailers. The new cache mode is the default one, so no changes are neccesary to any config files.
*NOTE: A bugfix release that fixes problems with the Apple servers is available in the mean time. The download link below has been adapted.
As promised a few posts ago a new automatic update process is in place. After I monitored it for a few days and everything works it is now live which means the trailer database is updated every few hours so you always have the latest trailers available on your WDTV or PC.
On another note: A new improved streaming mode is as good as done and has survived beta testing, streaming of 720p and 1080p trailers are now no longer a problem if you have the neccessary bandwidth. The new version will be released ASAP.
I haven’t gotten around to set up an automatic update process, so updates will be more or less irregular for the next 2-3 weeks and maybe only every few days. As soon as an automatic update process is in place, so that updates are available every few hours, I’ll let you know.
I just uploaded a new database that contains the latest new trailers (Street Dreams, The Crypt and others) and also fixes the problem that the newest trailers were not on top. It will be pulled in by auto update, the OSD modifications etc. will be updated as well.
A new version of appletrailerfs has been released. appletrailerfs brings you the Apple movie trailers to the Western Digital TV HD and your PC.
Despite the small version jump this release contains a bunch of new cool features. There is lot of new eye candy due to more thumbnails and also updates to the WDTV OSD. A real auto update mode is added and some long awaited options have been added. Screenshots of the new features are at the end of the article. See the following list for more details.
This is a bug fix release for the 0.3.0-beta version released yesterday. It fixes a bug that would occur sometimes when the movie database was loaded. All users are recommended to upgrade to this version.
A new version of appletrailerfs has been released. appletrailerfs brings you the Apple movie trailers to your Western Digital TV HD or any other Linux.
Version 0.3.0 contains some new features and bug fixes, namely.
added auto update function
WDTV
integration with event-osd to display custom UI
added option to hide trailers of a specific resolution
reduced memory consumption
minor fixes regarding parallel file access
In general the auto update function is of course the most notable feature, but for the WDTV users the integration of event-osd in order to display a new UI is a nice addition as well (thanks to rezmus for the original design, his original looked better (with rating, etc), but the data is not grabbed yet).
Check out movie at the end of the article to get an impression of the WDTV UI in action.
A new version of appletrailerfs has been released. appletrailerfs brings you the Apple movie trailers into your filesystem and to your Western Digital TV HD.
Version 0.2.0 contains some new features and bug fixes, namely.
support for all JSON streams from Apple Trailers
more trailers
better sorted, e.g. by last update and genres
added movie posters to file system
fixed issue on WDTV when media database is disabled
option to redirect log output to log file
integrated WDTV scripts into build process
generated source code documentation
Most noticeable will be the new folder structure and the movie thumbnails. The new folder structure allows you to browse the trailers by updates, i.e. the newest trailer is shown first, or to browse the movie trailers by genre or just view movies were HD trailers are available. With the new movie poster support for each movie a thumbnail of the movie poster is shown in the movie’s directory. See the screenshots at the end of the post to get an impression of the new features.
The WDTV application image is available at http://sourceforge.net/project/platformdownload.php?group_id=259619&sel_platform=15736.
Application images for the Western Digital TV HD were added for the appletrailerfs 0.1.1-alpha version.
This is the first release for the Western Digital TV HD. The application image can be used with either Zorander’s ext3-boot or B-RAD’s WDLXTV. Simply extract the file and copy the appletrailerfs.app.bin onto a USB stick that you use while booting the WDTV.
After a reboot, to view the movies just navigate to the “Video” menu and select “Folders”. Then go into the “Apple Trailers” directory and browse for a movie and trailer.
